ADULT Summer PROGRAMS

This 7-week Fall Rowing League (FRL) program is designed for rowers who previously rowed in SRL or have prior rowing experience, to row together as a team in an eight-person shell. Teams may consist of rowers with one season of rowing, past rowing experience, or mixed beginner skill levels. During the 90-minute 1:1 ratio coached practice session, rowers will learn basic rowing technique and boat moving skills, both on land and on the water, in a fun and low intensity environment. Rowers will work together as a team in an eight-person shell. Teams are made of 10 rowers with a mix of male and female rowers. Each team is eligible to participate in the Head of the Niagara Regatta held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at West Side. (All regatta fees are included in program cost) Why 10 rowers per team and not 8? We want to ensure if 1-2 members of your team can't make practice due to work or family commitments, your 8-person shell can still go out for practice. Practices which fall on holidays will be rescheduled at the convenience of the coach and crew. Typically, makeup sessions will be held on Saturdays or Sundays and when equipment is available.

Note: Coxswains are limited in the Fall season, so each crew will be required to take turns coxing themselves. TeamSnap will be used to organize practices/line-ups. If practice is cancelled due to weather conditions, a make-up session will be planned for the following weekend if it cannot take place in the tank or erg room.

Note: Fall 2024 payment is due no later than Tuesday, September 17, 2024. A late fee penalty of $50 will be applied to all Regatta Central accounts on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 with outstanding balances. Athlete registration and signed online waivers are due prior to attending practice. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Cost: $275 (WSRC FRL Long-Sleeve T-Shirt included)

TIME: Sessions are offered Monday through Thursday from 6:00-7:30pm and Wednesday at 11:30-1:00 PM

A TeamSnap will be used to organize practices. If practice is cancelled due to weather conditions, a make-up session will be planned for the following weekend if it cannot take place in the tank or erg room due to another program utilizing the space.

Rowing is a great sport for any age. The West Side Rowing Club is a great place to learn how to row, no matter your experience, age, or physical fitness. In our Learn-To-Row program we offer a two-hour introductory class.

Each class begins with a short instructional video, instruction on proper warm-up and stretching, rowing technique for sweep rowing, how to handle boats on and off the water, rowing terminology, and teamwork skills. We utilize our indoor rowing machines (ergs), our 10-seat INDOOR rowing tank, and our on-the-water training boats to introduce all participants to the sport of rowing.

NOTE: Rowers are requested to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of their session. All sessions will begin with a short introductory PowerPoint Presentation and Safety Review. On-water activities for all lean to row sessions are dependent on weather, number of participants, and time constraints.
